The Power of Prayer: How God Moved for My Homestead

Starting a homestead has been on my heart for months. I’ve been praying—really praying—for God to bring it to life. But for the longest time, it felt like I was stuck in the mud. I kept hitting roadblocks. Nothing moved. I didn’t even know how to start.

I questioned everything. Was I hearing God right? Was this idea even from Him? Or was it just me chasing something out of reach?

The truth is—worry and the unknown are hard for me. I think it's because as a child, I rarely had control over the situations I was put in. So now, trusting God and giving up control? That’s easier said than done. But prayer has been my lifeline, and in this season, I’ve learned what it really means to wait on the Lord.

🌱 A Seed Planted Through a Friend

One of my close friends helped get the ball rolling. She was at a farmer’s market and asked one of the farmers if they knew any resources for someone like me—wanting to start a farm while living with a disability.

The farmer had answers. She gave my friend a list of contacts, and that list made its way to me. I sent my first email not expecting much, but to my surprise, the man responded quickly—and he gave me a wealth of helpful resources.

One of the organizations he mentioned was AgrAbility, which supports people with disabilities in adapting farming practices. They help with everything from equipment to grants and modifications. I thought, This is perfect! God really is moving!

When Doors Seem to Stay Shut

I reached out to a woman listed in the AgrAbility directory. I waited… two weeks. No response. Okay, maybe she’s busy.

So I emailed the head of the department, and she responded—finally, someone would be reaching out! A few days later, I got a call, but I missed it. I called back the following Monday, left a voicemail… and again, no response.

Discouragement began to creep in.

At the same time, I discovered a woman on TikTok who teaches ecosystem-based gardening. Her content was inspiring, and I learned that her team offers a consulting service to help design gardens. I submitted a request form and started communicating with someone from her team.

But that too ended in disappointment. They told me the project was too large.

I could’ve explained more. I could’ve pushed harder. But I was emotionally tired. So I just thanked her and let it go. Another door closed.

At that point, I asked God through tears, “Do you really want this for me? Or am I chasing something You never intended?”

And Then, God Moved

Less than 24 hours after that prayer, God answered.

My best friend works at Emmett Ridge Farm, a gorgeous 300-acre golf course-turned-farm. She shared my heart and frustration with her boss, Jeremy. Without hesitation, he said, “I’d love to help her. I want to be part of this.”

Just like that, a door flew open.

He’s a man of faith. He believes in what I’m doing. And this new partnership feels completely aligned with God’s plan.

🌻 When God Says Wait, He’s Still Working

Here’s what I’ve learned: Just because something is slow, doesn’t mean it’s not moving. Just because people don’t call back or plans fall through doesn’t mean God isn’t listening.

He shuts doors for a reason.
He redirects for protection.
And when the time is right, He opens the door you were meant to walk through.

So to anyone praying for something—keep praying.

Even when it feels like you’re unheard. Even when the silence stings. Even when every plan seems to fall apart.

God is working in the background. The power of prayer isn’t always in how fast things change—it’s in knowing He hears you, and His timing is better than anything you could create on your own.

Final Words

If you’ve been praying for a breakthrough, know this: It’s not over.

Keep praying. Keep asking. Keep trusting.

God didn’t forget about your dream. He’s just getting everything aligned.

Isaiah 30:18 (NIV)
“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!”

Trust the wait. Because when He moves—you’ll know it was Him.
